This is another example of a double page spread.

This is another style of a double page spread.
The image is in the middle of the page which is different from the other two. then the interview is set around the image so you actually have to look for the questions. they have used the colours black and red as its an interview to do with love and secrets about her and her love life. The title relates to what she is sitting on a red mouth sofa. as its a mouth they use mouth in the title of the double page spread.

Another example of a double page spread

In this double page spread its more of a basic layout. The image and the main title is based on one page then leading onto the next. The main singer of the group is clearly showed as he is pushing the other members of the group away. They use three pale colours throughout the spread the colours are pink blue and green. It is again an interview style, and all the interview is clearly shown on on one side of the double page spread.

Example of a double page spread

This is a layout of a double page that i want to achieve. It's based on an interview style where a reporter is asking the famous singer questions about their life and love life. the layout of the double page spread is spread out throughout the page. they use young and cheerful colours that go towards the the storyline of the interview. as its to do with love they use colours such as pinks and pale natural colours. they also use younger looking shapes and the style of the text. they use these as they know its for a younger target audience they need the colours and layout to stand out to attract them to the page without them reading any of it.

My magazine front cover- Research

This is the front cover of my magazine that i am using to create my own magazine front cover. The audience is focused on young teenagers who are interested in music and other celebrities. The magazine is very lively by using bright colours and a very easy language that young children and teenagers can understand.

Draw up of a contents page- research

To get us used to creating our own front covers we had to draw a template of the NME front cover. We had to count how many columns there were and position each part where it would be on the actual magazine. This may come in usefull when attempting to make our own magazine front cover.

Comparing two different magazine contents pages- research

After annotating the two contents pages we than had to list all the similarities between the NME contents page and the Kerrang contents page.

Research- Kerrang Contents page

We then had to annotate the Kerrang magazine by looking out for the same key features layout, colours, text and image.

Research- NME Contents page

For a piece of homework we had to annotate a contents page from the magazine NME. We had to identify key points about the layout, colours, text and images used on the contents page.

NME magazine.

The NME ,magazine if focused on the genre music and is aimed at different music types such as Rock'n'Roll. This type of magazine is mainly aimed at teenagers and young adults. NME stands for 'New Musical Express' and its made to sound like enemy as certain denotations such as the colour of text and the image represents rebellion or subversive. The masthead NME is in a bright red which immediately attracts the audience and its slightly covered which could suggest its a popular magazine but as its only slightly covered the audience may need to be reminded of them magazine name. The woman in the main image has control over the whole magazine as she is completely in the center the main focus that the audience wants to know about. She even has her arm around the masthead showing that she in control. Everything and everyone is placed around her, with the man draping himself at the side of her and her arm over her, this suggests a sex appeal in the magazine. The clothes that they are wearing are black leather which indicates they maybe rock 'n' roll as that's where that type of fashion came from. Mise en scene is show through the main image on the magazine, dark black clothes are worn by the band which shows a slight danger and fear towards the audience. The camera angle is above them as they are lying down but its not aiming right at them is more of a worms eye view as she appears to look down at the camera. The strapline 'murder drugs and twisted love' anchors the image as it is placed around them. It tells the audience what the image and maybe the storyline is all about. The connotations of the colours used throughout the magazine including the colour of text and even the clothes are considered to be quite Gothic colours as they are very dark. There is a red bubble on the magazine front cover that tells that audience that it has an exclusive storyline inside. This attracts the audience instantly as its indicates this is the only magazine to have this storyline. You can also tell that this is true as they have pictures and they use quotations from the person who was in the interview. The magazine is dark and sinister that shows explicit language on the front cover this tells the audience that that its a non-judgmental making the magazine more appealing to a younger audience. One part of the magazine that could be portrayed as a bad influence is that it promotes drugs. The main image is of a woman smoking which could be a cigarette or may be another type of drugs such as cannabis.

Research for main task

The front cover 'Spin' is focused on music you can tell this from the main image as it's Kanye West and he background text has many music stars. The main image is a medium close up, with Kanye West looking straight at the reader. this is a very good way of getting the readers attention as its away of drawing them in, it invites them to read the magazine. The camera angle is straight on which gives you a clear view of the artist. The magazine is aimed towards the younger generation such as teenagers and young adults as it's focused on the latest bands and music artists that they would be interested in. Kanye West's clothes are very modern that would appeal to a younger audience, as they are very fashionable it's what they want to wear and be like. This creates a role model for teenagers. The masthead of the magazine 'Spin' is covered by a head which shows that the magazine is well known and not important for the reader to see. In this case the image is not the background it has a plain colour that fades and gets lighter. On the background there is a faint text that has loads of different names of bands and artists this attracts the reader as they can see what the magazine is about and what may be inside for them to read. this is a good way to advertise what inside the magazine without using loads of straplines on top of the main image so that it is covered. The skyline slightly covers the masthead, the text indicates what the main focus of the magazine is about and what the main image be about. Straplines on the magazine are very limited with only five that have very little text. The barcode is in the bottom right hand corner where a barcode is usually found on a magazine. The magazine has three main colours white, a green colour, red and a little bit of pink.

I have now totally changed my front cover. instead of having a blue background i have decided to use the main image as my background. but i havent totally got rid of the blue background. i have left some at the top that now becomes a skyline that has the name of the school in it, which is 'Lordswood Girls' School And Specialist For Media Art's'. The skyline is in a yellow colour and has the font perpetua. i have also found a logo of the lordswood basketball academy, i made the inside of the logo transparent so you can see more of the image. i have placed a barcode in the bottom right hand corner where you would find a barcode on any magazine front cover. there is some small text at the bottom of the magazine which talks about if you need more information then go to this website. It has a kicker near the bottom of the magazine and it also has three straplines that are coloured either yellow or white. I have also stuck to one style of font.

start of my front cover

On continuing with creating my front cover i have decided on my background colour, which is blue the schools main colour. I have also decided on the colour and type of font for my masthead, which is for my font, perpetua and the colour is yellow. I have used yellow as it is again a colour that symbolises Lordswood girls' school it is used within the uniform and on the school tie. i have also found the school emblem or logo on google which was on the Clive marks website. I then cropped the image and used the magnetic lasso tool, so its just the image with no background.

Starting the magazine front cover

To start the magazine front cover you had to plan ideas of what sort of magazine you would like to be your outcome. As basketball is now a big part of our 6th form i decided to focus on that for the front cover. i have decide to stick to the main colour of the school which is blue and yellow, this will easily show that its aimed at our school. I have decided where to position the masthead and the main image that will be on the front cover. for next lesson i will have my photograph taken ready to be used on the front cover.

Dwell Magazine

In order to create this magazine i had to look at many connotations and conventions to consider the target audience of the magazines front cover. I had to use a limited number of colours as less is more and too many colours will would be too messy and distracting. The colours i have used are a pale blue for the back ground and for the text black and grey. I have used these colours as i wanted the magazine be different to all other magazines, a typical women's magazine would use colours such as pinks and reds but mine would stand out as its not the typical magazine front cover. There is also another colour 'red' but it's only used once this is made to stand out, i have used it on the price so that it draws attention to the reader straight away. I have also used one type of typography throughout the magazine front cover. The image of 'Kiera Knightly' is the only image on the magazine, this is to show that it's the main storyline. The main image draws attention to the reader as it dominates the page, the model 'Keira Knightly' is facing straight on which invites the audience as she is looking right at them. The straplines are positioned around the image to show that the image is again more important. The straplines also show there's losts of story's that women would like to read about, including true story's, fashion and gossip. The image also covers part of the title which indicates that the magazine is well know as it's not as important to show the name. The magazine front cover has many layers apart of it, the number of layers allow you position components of the magazine freely around the page.
